A man attempted to break into a home in the Lake Highlands neighborhood of East Dallas around 1:20 a.m. on Friday, October 30. Doorbell cameras recorded the suspect ringing the bell several times while pacing the front porch. After returning to the door, he punched the glass window, shattering it and leaving blood on the porch. He then kicked the door multiple times before leaving the scene.
Jeff Jones, the homeowner, stated that he slept through the event but was woken by his son, who had not. Jones described the aftermath to FOX 4 reporter Amelia Jones, noting the suspect had donkey kicked the door and covered the area in blood. He called the incident a traumatizing event. Jones filed a police report, and Dallas Police are investigating the matter as a burglary, even though no items were stolen. Jones, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 20 years, expressed concern that such incidents are becoming more frequent than they were a decade ago.
A second homeowner in the same area reported a similar encounter earlier in the night. This resident believed the same individual had banged on his door and kicked it. He yelled at the man to leave and called for police. The homeowner noted that officers did not arrive until 7 a.m., despite the incident occurring overnight. Since Jones posted his video online, multiple neighbors have contacted him to confirm they have seen the same suspect. One neighbor said the man had been targeting homes for years, with incidents dating back six months.
Dallas Police identified a potential suspect on Friday but determined he was not the person responsible for the Lake Highlands break-ins. They continue to investigate the series of attempts. Jones pointed out that the man has a distinctive facial tattoo or marking, which he hopes will help officers identify him. He said he wants residents to be on the lookout for the individual.
Jones stated that he plans to install fencing around his property following the incident. He believes the neighborhood will band together to keep watch. Police have not released a description of the suspect beyond the facial marking mentioned by the homeowner.
