Shoppers in Clear Lake Shores will soon find more space to browse at The Junkyard Pearl. Owner Lauryn Abt plans to open a second retail location and build a dedicated warehouse. This expansion aims to separate sales floor operations from inventory management.
The current shop sells jewelry, clothes, fashion accessories, home decor, gifts, and vintage items. Abt selects pieces that are colorful, well-made, and distinctive. She seeks items that stop people and draw compliments. The goal is for customers to feel confident in their choices.
Abt’s background in the trade stems from her family history. Her mother ran boutiques, and her grandfather dealt in antiques. Before settling in the area, Abt sold at traveling shows in Round Top. She identified a gap in the local market for a shop that complements existing restaurants and bars.
The store serves as a social hub for families. Abt notes that mothers and daughters often bond over lunch and shopping. She positions the shop as a place where these relationships strengthen. Customers describe the atmosphere as a happy place for eclectic finds.
The business currently operates as a destination store. Visitors travel specifically to see the inventory. Abt states that creating a place where people take a detour is her biggest accomplishment. The store has grown to attract visitors from beyond the immediate neighborhood.
Abt intends to hire a larger team for the expanded operations. This staff increase will allow her to focus more on creative work. The long-term plan includes two stores and a functioning warehouse. Abt describes the growth process as taking things one day at a time.
The new warehouse will allow Abt to clean and stage the existing retail space. This separation of functions is a key part of the expansion strategy. Abt is proud of the destination she has built for the Clear Lake Shores community.
