The hiring of a television veteran signals a structural shift in how the social media giant communicates with the public. Meta has appointed Rich Latour as vice president of content studio, a new role designed to centralize the company's narrative efforts under one executive.
Latour will report directly to Tucker Bounds, the head of communications and public affairs. His mandate covers four specific areas: brand storytelling that emphasizes Meta's impact on communities, executive social media campaigns that amplify messages from top leadership, product content support with a focus on social platforms, and international social content. This consolidation places all outward-facing digital strategy within the communications and public affairs division.
Latour brings a background in high-profile financial and media sectors. He previously served as managing director and global head of content, creative, and events at BlackRock. Before that, he worked as vice president of digital content at Goldman Sachs. His career includes nearly two decades at NBC News, where he served as a producer and senior producer for NBC Nightly News. During his tenure there, he earned four Emmy Awards and two Edward R. Murrow Awards.
The appointment coincides with Meta's strategic pivot toward artificial intelligence and immersive hardware. While current revenues remain driven by Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, the company is expanding its investments in its Muse AI agent and its line of virtual and augmented reality glasses and headsets. The new content studio is tasked with supporting these technical expansions.
The studio operates as an outward-facing unit focused on telling Meta's story. However, the move indicates that content creation is becoming a more integral component of the company's overall portfolio beyond its core social applications.
