The final price tag on a Dia's Market & Deli sandwich is $12.99, a fixed cost that will no longer apply after this month. The North Central Austin grocery store, situated at 812 Justin Ln., announced on social media that it will close its doors at the end of November. This marks the end of a ten year run for the shop that opened in June 2016.

Owner David Hopper detailed the decision in a written history of the business. He and his wife, Amanda, initially understood the location would see development. That expected growth did not materialize, leading to a steady decline in customer traffic. Hopper stated that renewing the lease no longer made economic sense given these shifting circumstances.

The store's name derives from the first names of the Hoppers' three children: Dylan, Isobel, and Alexander. The couple began preparing the space in 2014 before launching the business. They chose the location because they already lived in the neighborhood and were raising their family there.

The site presents specific challenges for foot traffic. Justin Lane is an offshoot of North Lamar, connecting near Airport Boulevard. The store is not visible from these busy roads, which primarily serve car traffic rather than pedestrians. The shop sits adjacent to a cluster of established Asian markets and restaurants, including 99 Ranch Market and Tous les Jours Bakery Café, which may capture a portion of the local customer base.

Hopper described the shop as an underdog in the local food scene. He expressed pride in the learning experience and the community connections made over the years. The store was known for its consistent pricing on deli items, with breakfast sandwiches available for $8.25.

Beyond the deli counter, Dia's stocked rotisserie chickens and gourmet grocery items. The shelves featured products from local brands, such as non-dairy ice cream from Luv Fats and peanut bites from Oca, a 2025 Quest for Texas Best winner. The store also carried a selection of local beers.

The announcement did not specify a final date or list any closing specials. The post invited customers to visit before the end of the month to say farewell to the team.
