SNL Hosts: Navarrette targets Gillis with gym joke

Inde Navarrette hosted Saturday Night Live on Saturday night, marking her debut on the show. The episode began with a cold open focused on President Donald Trump, which included a cameo by actor Tom Hanks. Navarrette then took the stage for her monologue.

She addressed a controversy surrounding fellow host Shane Gillis from Season 52. Gillis had previously stated that women today dress like 'whores' at the gym. Navarrette incorporated this reference into her opening remarks to mock the comment.

Before making the joke, Navarrette introduced her boyfriend, Nick Aiello, to the audience. She described their relationship as chill, but the camera showed Aiello bound and gagged in the front row. The visual gag set the tone for her subsequent commentary.

Navarrette explained that she was preparing for an upcoming Marvel movie role. She noted that getting fit is a priority for the studio. To illustrate her point, she described her morning routine. She said, 'So every morning I put on my little whore outfit, and I hit the gym.'

The clip of this exchange spread rapidly on social media platforms. Many viewers praised Navarrette for her direct response to Gillis' remark. The joke served as a public counterpoint to the criticism Gillis had faced regarding his comments on women's attire.

The monologue also featured personal anecdotes about her role in the series Obsession. She clarified that she was not like her character in the show. The hosting slot followed the standard format of the series, with the cold open leading into the host's introduction.
