The Seattle Seahawks lost their bid for a close game against the Chicago Bears on Monday night. The Bears won 34-17 in a contest defined by defensive pressure and efficient quarterback play by Caleb Williams.

Jeffery Simmons made an immediate impact in his first game for Chicago. Acquired from Tennessee for two first-round picks, the defensive end finished with six tackles, three pressures, and one pass defensed. He also recorded a sack on the opening drive and a tackle for loss. Bears head coach Ben Johnson described the new addition’s effect on the unit as profound.

Chicago’s offense operated with high precision against a historically strong Seattle defense. Caleb Williams completed 71% of his passes for 247 yards while avoiding all turnovers. He took only one sack and led three short touchdown drives. D’Andre Swift scored on runs of one, two, and three yards. The Bears held Seattle to just 252 total yards of offense.

Seattle struggled to establish a ground game despite recent roster additions. The Seahawks managed only 81 rushing yards. This performance continued a trend for the defending champions, who have lost three of their last four games. The defeat ended a 30-game streak in which Seattle had not lost by more than four points. That run was the fourth longest in Super Bowl history.

Sam Darnold led the Seahawks with 188 passing yards and two touchdowns. He completed 17 of 34 attempts. However, a fourth-quarter interception set up Swift’s final score. That play extended the lead to 34-17 with 4:41 remaining. Seattle also faced a blocked 33-yard field goal by Jason Myers in the early fourth quarter.

The Bears built their lead gradually. They opened the game with a 17-play drive that ended in a one-yard touchdown pass from Williams to Luther Burden. Chicago added two field goals in the first half. The score stood at 20-9 entering the third quarter after another efficient drive culminated in a Swift touchdown run.

Seattle finally found the end zone in the second quarter when Darnold connected with Jaxon Smith-Njigba on a 43-yard pass. Later in the game, DeMarcus Lawrence forced a fumble by Colston Loveland. That turnover led to a seven-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Kupp. Seattle converted a two-point try to cut the deficit to 20-17 before the Bears sealed the victory.

Williams wore all-black cleats without a visible logo during the game. He did this to avoid further fines after the league penalized him approximately $35,000 for displaying an unauthorized brand mark. The quarterback said he wanted to minimize distractions for the team. He noted that a big week required him to keep the noise to a minimum.

Both teams listed injury updates following the contest. For Chicago, defensive linemen Grady Jarrett and Kenatvius Street left with groin and knee issues, respectively. For Seattle, defensive lineman Leonard Williams exited in the second half with a stinger and did not return.

The Bears host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night. The Seahawks will play at home against the Arizona Cardinals on the same day.
