The baseball season has wrapped up, and the award winners are about to be named. MLB Network announced Tuesday that Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale is a finalist for the National League Cy Young Award.
Sale is one of three pitchers on the list. He will compete against Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski and Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sánchez. The award winner will be revealed on Nov. 11.
Sale posted a 2.16 earned run average this season. He struck out 200 batters in 162.2 innings pitched. His performance helped the Braves post the fifth-best team ERA in baseball at 3.63. The team finished with 94 wins and claimed the NL East title.
Misiorowski is considered the favorite to win the trophy. He finished 16-5 with a 1.80 ERA and 252 strikeouts in 174 2/3 innings across 30 starts. Sale’s campaign is still viewed as strong, particularly after his 11-strikeout complete-game shutout against the Dodgers on Aug. 27.
The 37-year-old pitcher signed a one-year, $27 million contract extension in February. That deal includes a club option for $30 million in 2028. This resurgence follows a period where injuries limited him to just 151 innings from 2020 to 2023.
Braves manager Walt Weiss is also a finalist for NL Manager of the Year. He replaced Brian Snitker and led the team to its first NL East title since 2023. That award will be announced on Nov. 10.
