San Antonio police responded to a shooting outside a music venue near La Cantera Parkway and The Rim just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. The incident left one person injured and prompted a police investigation into a disturbance that escalated into gunfire.
Police officials said a group of patrons was escorted from the venue after causing a commotion. As the group returned to their vehicles, one or more individuals opened fire on the establishment. A 34-year-old man standing outside was struck by the gunfire, according to the department.
The shooting created a chaotic scene for nearby residents. Emma Hjortzberg-Nordlund, who lives near the venue, said she woke to the sound of three gunshots. She described people running, screaming, and hiding behind cars in the parking area as they sought shelter from the noise.
"It stopped very quickly, so I think nothing major, but still, no idea how many were shot, like if it’s going to continue, like am I safe where I am," Hjortzberg-Nordlund said. The sudden end to the gunfire left neighbors uncertain about the immediate danger and the number of victims.
The impact of the incident extended to nearby businesses. An employee at a Raising Cane’s location roughly a six-minute walk away reported that coworkers heard the shots. The restaurant, which operates late into the night, found bottles and trash abandoned in its parking lot following the event.
As of Sunday morning, no arrests have been made. San Antonio police have urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact the department. The investigation continues to determine the identities of the shooters and the specific circumstances surrounding the initial disturbance inside the venue.
