A cold front is set to move through the New Orleans area late Tuesday or early Wednesday, bringing a threat of strong to severe storms. Meteorologists warn that while specific timing and intensity details remain under review, residents should plan for scattered rain as the weather system passes.
Precipitation chances return Sunday with a 40 percent probability of lingering showers and isolated heavy downpours. Highs will settle in the upper 70s. Monday will feature mostly cloudy skies with only a slight chance for passing showers.
Election Day will be notably warm, with highs surging to the low 80s ahead of the approaching front. While a few showers or storms are possible during the day, the primary risk for rain and thunderstorms arrives at night as the front draws near.
Temperatures will drop slightly to the mid-70s by the end of the week as the air dries out behind the departing front. Forecasters indicate that another reinforcing air mass could push highs into the lower 70s by next weekend.
The shift marks a move away from the previous pattern into a more active weather regime for the region. The window for severe activity is concentrated around the front's passage on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
