High school football in Texas has a long memory, and Huntersville's is now deeper than ever. The Scots defeated Birdville, 48-31, on Friday at Highlander Stadium to secure the District 6-5A championship. This win stands as the 61st district title in the program's history, a record that places the team at the top of the state for winningest high school football programs.

The game began with a quick 3-0 lead for the Hawks. The Scots answered immediately, taking a 21-10 advantage by halftime. Head coach Randy Allen described the night as special because it served as senior night for the team. He noted that he wanted the players to have fun during their final regular season game. The team took their pictures with the new trophy, adding to the hardware in their trophy case.

Buck Randall led the offensive effort with a dominant performance. He completed 24 of 31 passes for 376 yards. Randall also rushed for 86 yards on 10 carries. He threw four touchdown passes and ran for one more. Evan Snelleman caught nine passes for 103 yards and a score. Beckett Lawrence recorded the team's highest receiving total with 130 yards. Defensive tackle Nick Van Der Westhuizen also scored on a 6-yard reception.

The Scots built their lead through the second quarter. Caiden Reeves scored on a 17-yard run early in that period. Later, a fourth-down stop by Van Der Westhuizen set up a 17-yard touchdown catch by James Axley. That play gave HP a 14-10 lead. In the third quarter, Randall connected with Van Der Westhuizen for a touchdown. Allen said he had been waiting for the right moment to call that specific play. He knew it would be there and noted that it was not an easy catch.

Birdville quarterback Zach Wells threw two touchdowns to Emmett Webb. Webb finished with seven receptions for 119 yards. Wells also ran for two additional scores. Despite the production from the Hawks, they could not overcome the 11-point deficit they faced at the half. Allen praised his own team's line and receiving corps for making plays. He also credited the defense for big turnovers and the kicking game for solid onside kick recoveries.

The Scots will play their next game on Thursday at 7 p.m. They face Carrollton Newman Smith at Standridge Stadium. A victory would give them a sixth consecutive win and close out the regular season. Allen said the short week allows the team to potentially scout their playoff opponent on Friday. He viewed the Thursday schedule as a positive for preparation.
