Christian Mbilli enters the ring Saturday as a 250-to-1 underdog against Saul Canelo Alvarez to defend the WBC super middleweight title.

Mbilli secured the full championship following Terence Crawford's retirement in September 2025. Crawford had defeated Alvarez in that bout, leaving Mbilli as the interim holder. Mbilli had won that interim belt in June 2025 with a first-round knockout of Maciej Sulecki. He subsequently fought Lester Martinez, a contest that ended in a split draw.

The champion relies on a high-pressure style built on physical dominance. Mbilli has recorded 24 knockouts in 29 career victories. His approach involves pushing opponents toward the ropes to land heavy right hands to the head and left hooks to the body. In one recent bout, he finished Mark Heffron with a body shot in 40 seconds. Mbilli throws 78 punches per round, with 58 of those being power shots. That volume is double the super middleweight average.

This output creates a risk of fatigue. Mbilli carries a muscular frame that strains under his heavy workload. His performance against Martinez showed signs of wear in the later rounds. He also leaves openings for counters when chasing large power punches. Sergiy Derevyanchenko landed several such counters against Mbilli in the mid and late rounds, despite fighting with one arm due to an injury.

Alvarez has not scored a stoppage in his last eight fights. His power remains a threat, but he is not a high-volume offensive fighter. Mbilli plans to use his size and pressure to force a brawl. He aims to push the pace and rely on physical attrition rather than technical boxing.

Terence Crawford told DAZN that Mbilli's style is tailor-made for Canelo. Crawford said, "I don't see him beating Canelo in a boxing match. I think his best success will be letting his hands go, roughing Canelo up, and making it a dogfight."

The fight takes place on Saturday. Mbilli is 29-0-1 with 24 knockouts. Alvarez is the favorite based on current odds.
