Neve Campbell has officially confirmed she will return as Sidney Prescott for Scream 8. She announced the news to the Associated Press on Monday night, marking her comeback to the horror franchise after a brief hiatus.
The actress described the film as being in the pipeline while discussing her current workload. She noted that she has two additional shows in development, one of which has already been sold.
When pressed for specific details about the eighth installment, Campbell kept her response brief. She stated she could not reveal much information but added with a laugh that she would definitely be in the movie.
Campbell has been a core part of the series since the 1996 original. She starred in the first four films created by Wes Craven. The franchise was later reimagined in 2022 with a new cast, during which Campbell appeared in a supporting capacity.
Her absence from Scream VI was attributed to salary disagreements. Following the release of that film, Melissa Barrera was removed from the project over social media posts regarding the Israel-Hamas war. Jenna Ortega subsequently left the series voluntarily.
Campbell returned for Scream 7, which was released in February of this year. The film focused on Sidney and her character daughter Tatum, played by Isabel May. It became the highest-grossing entry in the series, earning $208 million worldwide against a production budget of $45 million.
Scream 8 is currently in development at Spyglass Media, with Lilla and Nora Zuckerman writing the script. Kevin Williamson, who wrote the 1996 original and directed the seventh film, said in March that he does not plan to write or direct the next entry. He intends to focus on other film and television projects while remaining part of the franchise family.
