Five people hurt in two separate Halloween night shootings in East Lansing

East Lansing Police Chief Jennifer Brown announced that five individuals sustained injuries following two distinct shooting incidents near Michigan State University on Halloween night. The department handled four separate calls for service related to the events, with the two shootings accounting for all five victims.

The first incident occurred near the intersection of M.A.C. Avenue and Linden Street. Brown stated that officers found three people with gunshot wounds at that location. Two of those victims are listed in stable condition, while the status of the third was not immediately determined.

A second shooting took place later in the evening in the area of Stoddard and Frye Avenues. Two additional people were shot in that incident. Both victims are currently listed in stable condition. Police recovered multiple guns from the scene, though authorities have not confirmed if those specific weapons were used to fire the shots.

Brown said several individuals were taken into custody in connection with the violence. The police department has not indicated whether the two shootings are linked. It is also unclear if any of the injured are students at Michigan State University.

An MSU spokesperson said the university's police and public safety department assisted local officers during the response. The spokesperson noted that the criminal activity did not pose a threat to the campus and did not occur on university property. The East Lansing Fire Department reported responding to 91 total incidents over a 24 hour period, with 75 of those calls arriving on Halloween night.
