Roughly eighty residents attended the 11th annual Farm to Table Dinner at Davis Pavilion in Pass Christian. The event, organized by Pass Christian Main Street, functions as a primary fundraising mechanism for local civic and commercial groups. Proceeds from the evening are directed toward the organization's ongoing operations and other community entities.
The dinner has operated for a decade, relying on the labor of local culinary professionals. For this year's iteration, chefs from Field’s Italian and Cajun Connection prepared the initial courses. Marie Lamb, a self-taught chef and potter, contributed the salad and dessert. Lamb, who has participated in the event for five years, crafted the pottery plates used to serve the salad course.
The evening schedule included live music and social interaction among attendees. Bug Broussard, the executive director of Pass Christian Main Street, described the gathering as a chance for neighbors to connect. "We always have a good time here. So we’ve got the music playing, we’ve got everybody that knows everybody, but that is one thing about the Pass. We’re all neighbors and so we just enjoy getting together and having a good time," Broussard said.
Lamb characterized the preparation process as "happy work" that she does not regret. She noted that the collaborative nature of the event keeps the energy high regardless of the specific role played. The continuation of the tradition depends on the consistent contribution of local chefs, sponsors, and volunteers. These supporters provide the resources necessary to host the meal each year without interruption.
