One person died and three others sustained injuries in a shooting that occurred Sunday night in Madison, Illinois. The incident took place at approximately 9:50 p.m. at Madison Senior High School. Authorities confirmed the game was a youth football championship unrelated to the high school’s own athletic program.

The four victims required medical attention. Three were transported to local hospitals, while the fourth died at the scene. The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has assumed control of the investigation. Lt. Andrew Pierson, the squad’s public information officer, urged the public to share any information they possess. "You do not have to have the whole story, a single photo, a short video, or one detail you think is insignificant may be exactly what moves this investigation forward," Pierson stated.

The shooting follows a pattern of violence affecting school grounds in the region. Although the event was not organized by Madison School District, officials acknowledged the impact on the campus. The district issued a statement noting it is "deeply saddened by the shooting." They clarified that while the game was not sponsored by the district, the violence affects the entire school community.

Madison School District canceled classes for Monday to allow staff and students to process the event. Normal operations are scheduled to resume on Wednesday. The district confirmed that counseling and support services will be available to all affected parties.

Investigators have established a command post to gather witness statements. The public is asked to contact the command post at 618-709-7750 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477 with any relevant details. Police are specifically seeking individuals who were in the crowd and may have seen, recorded, or heard information related to the shooting.

The investigation remains active as officers review footage and interview witnesses. The Major Case Squad continues to collect evidence at the scene. No suspects have been named in the initial reports.
