Hattiesburg clarifies rules for community event listings
City officials distinguish between calendar promotion and official permit requirements for local gatherings.

The City of Hattiesburg has detailed the administrative procedures for publishing community events on its official calendar. The guidelines clarify the distinction between promotional listing and formal city endorsement.
Organizers must provide a point of contact or a link to additional information such as a website or ticketing vendor. All submissions undergo a review process that typically concludes within 24 to 48 hours. If a listing is rejected, the city contacts the designated representative.
Events scheduled for publication must occur within city limits. While photographs are encouraged, they are not mandatory for approval. The city retains the authority to approve or deny listings and may edit submitted content before publication.
City officials emphasize that a calendar listing does not automatically confer the status of city-sanctioned or city-sponsored. Those designations require separate approval from the City Council. However, events holding either status will also appear on the public calendar.
Posting an event is distinct from filing a permit. Organizers using city property, streets, or traffic support must submit a separate application to the Hattiesburg Police Department. The permit form is available for download from the police department website.
