Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones will discuss artificial intelligence regulation on a public television panel tonight.
Ortiz Jones is one of eight guests appearing on Breaking the Deadlock. The episode, titled AI: Who’s in Control?, premieres at 8 p.m. Tuesday on KLRN.
The program is produced by WGBH, a Boston PBS member station. It has received an Emmy nomination. The show aims to help viewers with different political views find common ground on difficult topics.
UC Davis law professor Aaron Tang will lead the conversation. He will present specific scenarios to the panelists. One example involves a town using AI cameras to predict criminal behavior before it happens.
The broadcast coincides with ongoing debates in local, state, and federal governments about how strictly to manage the industry. Residents are also reacting to the physical presence of new data centers in their neighborhoods. Many worry about potential job losses caused by the new technology.
The episode will stream live on the KLRN website during the broadcast. Viewers can also watch previous episodes free of charge on the station's site or through the PBS app.
