The Milwaukee Brewers secured a commanding 3-0 lead in the World Series by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field. The decisive factor was a record-setting offensive surge in which Milwaukee scored eight runs with two outs in the third inning. This performance marked the first time in World Series history that a team has achieved such a feat in a single inning.

The Brewers initially held a 2-0 lead when Christian Yelich and William Contreras hit consecutive RBI singles on opposite-field contact. The momentum shifted dramatically when Brice Turang hit a two-run single off a sharp grounder that bounced past shortstop Taylor Walls. This hit was the second of seven consecutive two-out hits against Tampa Bay pitchers Freddy Peralta, Cam Booser, and Cole Sulser. The Brewers extended their lead to 10-0 by the end of the frame, capping a 17-pitch scoring run that included hits from Garrett Mitchell and Cooper Pratt.

Walls described the moment the ball glanced off his glove as feeling like a "knife in the chest." He noted that he attempted to get his eyes close to the height of the hop but felt he was slightly above the ball, which made the play more difficult. The Rays had been competitive earlier in the series, winning the first two games at American Family Field by one run apiece. However, the third-inning collapse overwhelmed their defense and pitching staff.

A controversial call also influenced the game flow. In the fifth inning, an infield single by Contreras was initially called a forceout but was reversed after review. This decision loaded the bases and allowed the Rays to score, though it did not close the gap. Rays manager Kevin Cash described the team's situation with a "chip and a chair mentality," stating that they must win the next game to remain in contention.

Historical context suggests the Rays face a steep climb. Among 25 teams that have trailed 3-0 in a World Series, 21 were swept. Only the Boston Red Sox in the 2004 ALCS have ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in any best-of-seven postseason series. The previous World Series record for runs with two outs in an inning was seven, set by the Boston Red Sox in 2007 and matched by San Francisco in 2010.

The Brewers' offensive production was bolstered by Jackson Chourio, who recorded four hits in the game. Sal Frelick and David Hamilton also contributed with key base hits that extended the lead. The pitching staff, led by Griffin Jax, will start Game 4 on Tuesday. Jax indicated he will focus on preparation rather than the deficit, stating that the team needs to "sleep it off and come back tomorrow ready to fight."

The next game is scheduled for Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. The Rays need to win three consecutive games to stay alive in the series. The Brewers aim to close out the championship with a fourth consecutive victory.
