The 2026 NFL season presents an unexpected table of contents as teams navigate the mid-October mark. The Cleveland Browns currently hold the top spot in their division, a position driven by the offensive output of quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson secured his fifth game-winning fourth-quarter drive of the year in a 27-24 victory over Tennessee on Sunday. This performance places him among only two other quarterbacks since 1970 to engineer a winning drive in each of their team's first five wins.

The New York Giants have also claimed first place in the NFC East, a feat complicated by their recent quarterback stability. The Giants won their Week 7 game with J.J. McCarthy starting, marking their third victory of the season with a different starter. New York now stands as the first team since the 2016 Patriots to win at least three games with three different starting quarterbacks before November. The roster has seen wins with McCarthy, Jameis Winston, and Jaxson Dart under center.

At the bottom of the standings, the Baltimore Ravens find themselves in last place following a lopsided loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Ravens held a 13-0 lead at halftime but finished the game 35-13. This result represents the third-largest defeat in NFL history for a team that led by at least 13 points at the break. The collapse marked the second consecutive week where Baltimore shut out its opponent in the first half only to score zero points and lose in the second.

Statistical trends further illustrate the Ravens' struggles in recent years. Since 2020, the team has lost 17 games after establishing a double-digit lead, the highest total in the league during that span. All three of Baltimore's losses this season have occurred in games where they held a double-digit advantage at some point. The coaching situation adds a layer of narrative to these standings, as the Giants and Browns are led by John Harbaugh and Todd Monken, respectively. Both coaches were released by Baltimore at the end of last season.

The Dallas Cowboys have moved into a tie for first place in the NFC East, sitting one game behind the Giants following a Monday night victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. The current standings reflect a shift in power dynamics within the conference. The Browns and Giants lead their divisions, while the Ravens trail behind. The Cowboys remain in contention for the top spot. These positions set the stage for the final weeks of the regular season.
